CAE acquires U.K. company as part of move into mining sector

Montreal: CAE Inc. has acquired The Datamine Group, a U.K.-based global supplier of software and services for the mining sector, the Montreal-based company announced Monday.
CAE primarily supplies training equipment and services for commercial aviation and military markets. But the company is making a strategic diversification into three other areas - health care, mining and energy - where CAE believes its expertise in modelling and simulation can be applied.
Datamine is involved in exploration data management, orebody modelling, mine planning and mine operations management.
Datamine has customers in over 70 countries across the globe and a workforce of 100 people. Its research and development centre is in the United Kingdom and there are nine sales and support offices in Australia, Canada, South America, South Africa, India, Europe and the United States.
CAE employs more 7,000 people at more than 90 sites and training locations in more than 20 countries.
