New Delhi: Eleven recognised unions of Air India employees today came together on a united platform and demanded immediate implementation of the recommendations of two parliamentary committees to save the national carrier.
The unions, which participated in a day-long "Save Air India" convention here, joined hands to form United Platform of Air India Employees (UPAIE) and decided to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention to save the airlines.
"The merged entity, National Aviation Company of India (NACIL), has lost about Rs 13,365.73 crore during last three fiscal and this year it is expected to suffer a loss of Rs 54539.73 crore. The loss suffered by Air India was entirely due to wrong policy decisions and directions of the Ministry of Civil Aviation," alleged J B Kadian, general secretary of Air Corporation Employees' Union (ACEU).
He said "one and only way to save Air India was to implement the recommendations of 151st report of Department related Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture and the 4th report of Committee on Public sector Undertaking (COPU)."
UPAIE has the support of ACEU, Aviation Industry Employees' Guild, All India Aircraft Engineers' Association, Air India Aircraft Engineers' Association, Air India Officer's Association, Air India Engineers Association, Air India Radio Officers and Flight Operations Officers Association, India Commercial Pilots Association, Indian Pilots Guild, Indian Aircraft Technicians Association and Indian Airlines Officers Association.
