Mumbai: For passengers flying low-cost carriers (LCC), boarding through the new terminal 1C will continue to remain a distant dream. Currently, the newly inaugurated terminal only serves full-fare carriers Air India (AI), Jet Airways and Kingfisher. Officials said that even in future, the terminal will be used only for full-service carriers. Several passengers who often fly LCCs said they are disappointed that the still have to take terminal buses to board their respective flights.
Terminal 1C, which was opened on April 17, is linked to both the old terminals, 1A and 1B. It is spread across 2,97,194 square feet on three floors and has six aerobridges and a seating capacity for 1,000 passengers at a given point in time.
"We had expected to board from the new terminal, but were disappointed to discover that it wasn't meant for all passengers," said Shobha Kaul, who recently travelled by an Indigo flight to Coimbatore. "Kingfisher and AI already had aerobridge facilities, so there are hardly any passengers from 1B who will be routed to the new terminal," she added. Many passengers who were booked on Jet Airways' low-cost arm, Jet Konnect, too cannot board through 1C.
