Air India allows 21 de-rostered crew to report on flight duty

Mumbai: The Maharaja bowed down to the demand from a section of its staff in less than 20 hours on Thursday.
Fearing flight disruptions, Air India on Thursday allowed 21 cabin crew members to report back on flight duty.
These crew members had been de-rostered (taken off flying duty pending an enquiry) for allegedly delaying a Delhi-Toronto flight via Cairo by 16 hours on April 20 by reporting late on duty.
The All India Cabin Crew Association (AICCA) had called a work-to-rule protest from Wednesday midnight.
The AICCA, which comprises more than 2,000 cabin crew, had refused to work beyond their stipulated work shifts even in contingency situations to condemn the action against the crew in the Cairo case.
But with the airline heeding to the demand to re-roster the crew, the protest did not affect AI’s international flights.
But only the first round of dispute is over. Now the AICCA wants an investigation in the Cairo case.
“The real offenders should be punished,” said Sanjay Lazar, general secretary, AICCA.
