Aizawl: Mizoram’s main airport at Lengpui is likely to be handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), reports The Zozam Times.
Currently Lengpui Airport is under the control and management of the Govt of Mizoram, but with escalating cost it has become difficult for the state to run it.
This decision was indicated by Chief Miniter Pu Lal Thanhawla right after the Assemly Session a few days ago.
“There has been no detail talks on the move but with shortage of technical team from the state and difficulty in managing the airport it is much more reasonable to hand over the operation to the AAI,’ Asst. Director, Aviation Wing, Saidenga said.
However, even if the airport is given to AAI, it will not be a complete overhaul. The terminal builing, quarters and other offices in the city will be retained by the government, he added.
