Air India to disburse interim compensation in Mangalore crash by Wed

Bangalore: A special team from Air India will be in Mangalore on June 9 to give interim compensation to the remaining relatives of victims of IX-812 crash that left 158 passengers dead on May 22.
The team led by Sunil Kishen, executive director (Southern Region) and S Kundra executive director (Finance), during the third camp, will also disburse the relief amount announced by the Centre from the prime minister's relief Fund.
In respect of the claimants who received the interim compensation during the first phase held on May 28 and May 29, prime minister's relief fund cheques will be disbursed on June 10, an Air India statement said here today.
Earlier, Air India had announced an interim compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family members of a deceased adult (above 12 years of age) and Rs five lakh for a child (below 12 years of age) and Rs two lakh for each of the eight survivors.
On its part, the government had announced a payment of Rs two lakh for the family of a deceased and Rs 50,000 for a survivor from the prime minister's Relief fund.
Air India has disbursed claims of Rs 11.29 crore to 129 families and an amount of Rs 1.47 crore to 74 families of victims at the closure of the second camp on June 5.
The airlines expects to complete disbursing the payments with the third camp since 129 cases of survivors and deceased have already been handled and only 31 cases are remaining.
