Mumbai: The case against Manoj Malviya, the additional commissioner of bureau of civil aviation security, seems to be getting more complex.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently questioned officials from Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines for offering favours to Malviya.
Last month, the CBI had registered a case of conspiracy and
corruption against Malviya, a 1986-batch IPS officer from West Bengal, for abusing his official position and seeking favours from those in the aviation industry.
The CBI alleged that the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), GVK Industries and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) footed bills of 5-star hotels where Malviya stayed during his visits to Mumbai between May 2009 and February 2010.
The investigation agency questioned the two airlines to see if they had complied with his demands.
The CBI also questioned the functionaries of an NGO with whom Malviya’s wife is associated. Many of the donors to the NGO are from the civil aviation sector, and the CBI suspected that the donations were made due to Malviya’s influence.
