New Delhi: In a bid to strengthen security at IGI Airport, the police, along with CISF, are planning to establish a new security system. Under the new mechanism, termed Security Operations Control Centre (SOCC), all important tasks — frisking, baggage handling and scanning, anti-sabotage detection — will be monitored in real-time through a single control centre and security response to any threat will be managed by a single agency. Over 6000 security personnel, along with over 2500 CCTV cameras and 352 scanning machines are expected to be a part of new system.
Experts, however, pointed out that security on the periphery will remain a concern until CISF and Delhi police had better co-ordination between them. "No amount of electronic surveillance can replace patrolling as snags are all too common in this area," said a former DCP, who was once associated with the airport security.
According to sources, the security at IGI Airport has been revamped anti-sabotage detection and intrusion systems have been installed at international and domestic terminals.
