Modern conveyor belts installed in Kolkata airport

Kolkata: The NSC Bose International Airport here is in the process of upgrading the conveyor belts in its domestic lounge to strengthen security system and speed up movement of luggage. Airport director R Srinivasan said ultra modern three-level conveyor belts have already replaced two old belts in the domestic lounge and the remaining one would be upgraded soon. Imported from Netherlands, the conveyor belts have a sensor to 'read' the contents of a luggage and also a scanner which would, in most cases, do away with the current practice of physical checking of luggage, Srinivasan said. These belts are much faster than the earlier ones and are able to pass 1,200 baggages in an hour, he said.
