New Delhi: The Navy suffered its second air accident this year when a Chetak helicopter crash landed in a river bed soon after taking off from INS Dega near Vishakhapatnam on Wednesday resulting in the death of an air crew diver. The two pilots and a woman officer who was also on board have survived the accident.
The helicopter crashed around 12.45 pm on Wednesday, naval sources said here. It fell in Sarada river near Anakapalle town around 50 kilometres from Vishakhapatnam, the headquarters of the Navy's Eastern Fleet.
Diver Krishan Kumar remained stuck inside for a long time and when he was brought out his condition had become critical and later succumbed to his injuries. He was a native of Bihar.
The helicopter was being flown by Lieutenant Commander N Rishikesh and Lieutenant Tushar Sharma. SubLieutenant Deepika Mishra, an air traffic controller, was also in the chopper as part of her air operation familiarisation drill.
