Chennai airport to go private

Chennai: Chennai’s Anna International Airport, an apology of a facility for a major metropolis that has been mired in delays with its expansion, may soon get a booster shot of private funds. Sources say authorities have already starting the process to float global tenders to privatise the airport.
A senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) official told Deccan Chronicle that expressions of interest have been invited in a process that has deliberately been kept low-key. Four leading airport operators have already evinced interest.
According to the official, the whole process has been kept top secret and is being dealt with by top AAI administrators in New Delhi as a politically-connected TN-based group with interests in aviation is also keen on procuring the airport.
