Ahmedabad: A woman was caught with a fake photograph on her passport at the immigration counter of Ahmedabad's international airport on Thursday night.
According to officials, the woman, one Jignya Patel, arrived at the airport at around 9 pm on Thursday. Officials at the immigration counter were quick to detect that the photograph on her passport was that of a look alike. When the officials started questioning her, she failed to give proper answers. Later, immigration officials detained her. She was consequently handed over to Sardarnagar police officials.
The Sardarnagar police have filed a complaint against her. Patel was produced in court later in the day. Sources said that she was sent to a day in police remand. Officials are now trying to get details of the agent through whom Patel flew to the US using the passport.
Police inspector of Sardarnagar police station, YR Gamit, told DNA, "We have found that the husband of the accused used to work in the US. She flew from Chennai to the US using the passport in 2005. However, the US government deported her after it was found that her passport was forged. When she arrived at the airport here, she was apprehended."
