Bad weather, equipment

Nagpur: Hundreds of inbound as well as outbound passengers were put to great inconvenience as flights scheduled to arrive at Nagpur on Saturday were either diverted to Hyderabad or cancelled due to bad weather and poor visibility. Airport sources said the Instrument Landing System (ILS) also went out of order on Saturday, leading to the disruption.
However, Shafiq Shah, an Airport Authority of India (AAI) official, said that the ILS system has been put on maintenance work from August 5 to 13. "Notices regarding this had been issued to all airlines, the DGCA and other authorities concerned," he said.
The Air India and JetLite Mumbai-Nagpur flights and Pune-Nagpur Indigo flight were diverted to Hyderabad while Air India's Delhi-Nagpur flight was sent to Raipur. Abhishek, a Nagpur-bound passenger on Indigo Airlines from Mumbai, told TOI that he had received a message from the airlines about the cancellation of Nagpur flight.
Airline officials said that the Pune-Nagpur Indigo flight which was diverted to Hyderabad took off from there at 10.15 am for Nagpur but returned at 12.30 pm. The Air India and JetLite morning flights returned to Mumbai from Hyderabad as they too were not given the green signal to land at Nagpur. The Delhi-Nagpur flight, diverted to Raipur, was the first to land after visibility improved for a few hours. This was followed by Jet Lite's Mumbai-Nagpur flight at about 11 am.
