New Delhi: By the end of this week, passengers of international flights might be able to check in without having to stand in long queues. Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) is in the process of setting up four self check-in kiosks and a web check-in facility that are likely to become operational within the next few days.
From Thursday, the airport will also have six check-in counters at the international transfer area from where passengers of connecting international flights will be able to complete all pre-boarding formalities before catching their next flight.
About 400-600 passengers use Delhi as a stop-over point between two countries daily. Many of these are tourists heading for the Himalayas for adventure sports. ‘‘Our intention is to make Delhi a hub, specially for connecting international passengers. There is a lot of adventure tourism in the neighbouring countries and we have to make Delhi an attractive stop-over point. While there were two counters at the older international terminal, the new terminal has more such counters. These would be manned by airline staff round the clock, making it the only such facility in India,’’ said Ashwani Khanna, vice-president, terminal operations DIAL.
