AI COO still to get security clearance

New Delhi: Over three months after he joined as Air India’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Gustav Baldauf is still to get security clearance from the government.
Baldauf joined the national carrier as its first ever COO on June 2 on a hefty annual pay package of around R3.1 crore.
The file seeking the security clearance was, however, only recently sent to the cabinet secretariat by the civil aviation ministry. AI, on its part says, that Baldauf has been meeting DGCA and ministry officials, attending board meetings and carrying out his functions of COO and has a visa valid for employment in India. Baldauf has also started drawing salary and is subject to the country’s tax laws. Ministry officials, however, agree that an adverse security report would make the appointment invalid.
