Emergency landing at Chennai airport

Chennai: An Air India Express flight from Mumbai with 133 passengers on board made a full emergency landing on Wednesday night at the Chennai airport after the aircraft’s flaps failed to extend, thus hampering the slowing down process required for a smooth landing.
Though AI Express IX-206 was initially declared to be on standby a few minutes before it was to land, the pilot reportedly made a request to the ATC for priority landing after he realised that the flaps were not extending and that he might not be able to slow down the plane while landing.
“The pilot had indicated that his rear flap was not opening, but it eventually made a normal landing,” an Air India spokesperson said.
