Mumbai: In the midst of the uncertainty surrounding the Navi Mumbai airport, there has been a serious push for making Nashik airport the diversion airport.
On Thursday, a high level meeting of officials of the Airport Authority of India, Mumbai International Airport Ltd, Maharashtra Airport Authority, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (which runs the airport), revenue department, the police and airline heads was called at Ojhar in Nashik to discuss the issue. The meeting was chaired by member of parliament Sameer Bhujbal.
While Ahmedabad, Baroda and Indore airports are also being considered, the forum was informed that Nashik airport reduces the distance, as the airport is 140 nautical miles from Mumbai.
