New Delhi: Troubles at the Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport entered the tenth day on Tuesday, forcing Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel and Air India CMD Arvind Jadhav to pay and inspection visit.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has now given a go-ahead to Air India to shift its entire domestic operations to T3 from Thursday to prevent a further escalation of the crisis. The national carrier will shift to T3 three days ahead of the rest of the domestic airlines — Kingfisher, Jet Airways and their low-cost segments.
The problem started after the decision to shift domestic operations to T3 was postponed from October 28 to November 14. Air India had at the time announced its winter schedule, and named T3 as their hub port.
On October 31, Air India decided shift a part of its domestic operations to T3. The situation then spiralled out of control, leading to flights getting delayed by anywhere between five to 24 hours.
