AI makes hectic preparations for D-Day

New Delhi: Till late into Wednesday night, senior Air India officials could be seen rushing around IGI airport's terminal 3, making last-minute preparations and tying up lose ends before their domestic operations moved into the integrated facility the next day. The airline's first domestic arrival at T3 on Thursday would be IC-601 from Mumbai, expected to land at 7.55am. The first domestic flight out of the terminal would be IC-867 to Goa at 4.55am.
A joint review by civil aviation secretary M Madhavan Nambiar, senior officials of the ministry, DIAL and airline representatives gave the final go-ahead to the transfer of AI's domestic operations to T3 on Thursday. After more than a week of massive delays, the airline finally managed a more respectable on-time performance chart on Wednesday with only a few flights delayed by 1-2 hours as against the 12-hour long delays that were seen earlier.
The airline has advised domestic passengers to report to the airport 75 minutes before departure and international passengers three hours before departure to avoid rush.
