Air cargo agents happy with govt moves

Mumbai: A month after cargo agents at the Mumbai airport went on a flash strike bringing movement of at least 1,000 tonnes of goods to halt, some of their immediate grievances have been resolved by the Mumbai airport authorities, they said.
“The air cargo trade is happy with the changes that have been made till now. But a number of major demands are yet to be met. We have been asking for the approach gate to the air cargo complex be widened. The road condition also has to be improved,” said Bharat Thakkar, vice president of the Air Cargo Agents Association of India (ACAAI).
Agents say that almost every day, trucks entering the air cargo complex at Sahar Road in Andheri wait up to 14 hours to drop the goods. This is because of a narrow approach road and poor infrastructure at the gate. The constrained approach road leading to severe traffic jams for several hours has been a source of concern to the traffic police as well. Agents have also called on MIAL and the traffic police to make this area a no-parking zone to de-congest the limited space.
