Lucknow: Air fares seem to be caught in an air pocket -- sometime high, sometime low. Fathom this fact: While an Air India flight from Lucknow to Delhi on November 25 will cost you over Rs 9,800, a day's wait can bring it down to Rs 3,433.
Even as this high variance in air fares continues to baffle the air travellers, airlines seem to be going by the time-tested formula of demand and supply. The fluctuation is already being screened by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is examining the domestic air travel demand and supply situation this peak season.
That apart, the air fares on different dates make for an interesting graph. Consider the Indigo's flight 6E-309 from Lucknow to New Delhi. Had you booked a ticket on Monday, you would have ended up doling out Rs 6,323 per seat. But on November 26, the same ticket goes down to Rs 1,999. It then goes up to Rs 2,601 on November 27 and to Rs 3,304 on November 28 before falling down to Rs 2,601.
If you bought a ticket in a Go Air flight (G8-354) to Delhi on Monday for Tuesday, it would cost Rs 6,666. The charges skyrocket up to Rs 9,466 for November 24 and then plunge back to Rs 4,536 on November 25. Wait till November 28, and all you pay is Rs 2,966 per ticket in the same aircraft.
