Patna: Air India's Patna airport phone rang throughout the day as harried flyers kept inquiring about their luggage that had gone missing after they handed over the same to the airline staff who issued them their boarding passes.
As many as 17 passengers aboard the Delhi-Patna flight found their entire luggage missing when they landed at Patna on Sunday noon. By Monday evening, the luggage of only five of them could be traced and flown to Patna from Delhi. "We are trying to locate the other missing bags," an AI staff said.
Asked what will happen if the AI fails to locate the luggage, an airport official told TOI such an aggrieved passenger can make a claim for compensation. The compensation is based on the weight of the lost luggage and varies from Rs 400 to Rs 500 per kg, said the official.
"That's horrible," said one of the 12 aggrieved AI passengers. Besides clothes and gift items for his family members, this Abu Dhabi-based engineer's missing trolley bag had a laptop worth Rs 80,000 in it.
