More flights on time at Mumbai airport, thanks to Obama

Mumbai: If airlines were able to improve their on time performance (OTP) at Mumbai airport last week, they should thank United States president Barack Obama for visiting India.
“The improvement was because both runways, 09-27 and 14-32, were made available not just to Air Force One but to other airlines also,” said a spokesperson of the Mumbai International Airport Limited. “The OTP for arrivals on both days was 84%. For departure, it was 87% and 84% on November 5 and 6 respectively.”
Because of the two days of the Obama visit, the average OTP for arrivals and departures was 60% and 65% in the November 1-6 period.
Between October 11 and 23, the OTP had gone down to 58% from 70% in September due to partial closure of the main runway (for mandatory repair works) and low visibility.
