Another setback for AAI

Thiruvananthapuram : The move by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to commission the Rs 300-crore new terminal building of the Thiruvananthapuram Airport has received another setback.
The Airport Advisory Committee, which met on Saturday, suggested that the terminal be operated only after a formal inauguration.
The Advisory Committee headed by Shashi Tharoor MP, also decided to seek the date of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for commissioning the new terminal.
Tharoor said that he was already in touch with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and it is expected that the Prime Minister may visit the State capital in another couple of months for various programmes.
“We hope that the airport could be inaugurated along with that. By that time all the basic facilities for the terminal could be made available,” Tharoor said.
It may be recalled that the State Government had earlier expressed its displeasure over the move by the AAI to commission the terminal before a formal inauguration.
