Choppers and small planes to be diverted to revamped Juhu airport

Mumbai: The Airports Authority of India is all set to revamp the Juhu airport and shift all helicopter operations there, despite opposition from the Ambani brothers.
Hoping to shift all helicopter traffic to the airport, in order to reduce congestion at Mumbai airport, AAI also plans to also commercially exploit the airport land adjoining the busy S V Road.
AAI chairperson V P Agrawal and other senior officials inspected the airport - which caters to over 80 helicopters every day - on Thursday.
The airport will soon have a passenger terminal and new hangars, he said. Smaller planes will also be shifted to the Juhu airport. “We will create 20 parking bays and eight hangars here,” Agrawal told Mumbai Mirror. The passenger terminal, which will have an ATC tower, will be constructed near the ONGC base.
