IT system collapses, manual check-in delays flights at IGI

New Delhi: The IT system at IGI Airport's terminal 3 collapsed on Friday evening, leading to a delay of about an hour on several flights as airlines had to carry out manual check-in. According to sources, the system developed a problem for just over an hour due to which even the flight information display systems were not working.
A Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) spokesperson said : "Due to IT network problems, at 4. 25pm, systems at T3, which include FIDS and check-in counters were down for one hour and five minutes. All systems were restored and were functioning properly from 5. 30 pm onwards. "
The evening hour, when passengers would have started checking in for flights scheduled for departure after 6pm, saw about 15 flights getting delayed for about an hour. The three domestic full cost carriers —Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines — were the worst-affected, as international flights still had sufficient time to check-in their passengers before departure. In the one hour that the system was not available, Air India itself had about 12-13 flights for which check-in had started and about three were delayed in the process. Ravi Jain, booked on Kingfisher IT318, scheduled for departure at 6. 10pm, stood in the check-in line for over an hour before the airline gave him a handwritten boarding card.
