New airport terminal: Domestic services likely

Thiruvananthapuram: With December 12, the day on which the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is scheduled to commission the new terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, fast approaching, there is a fresh move to operate both international and domestic services from the new terminal.
Earlier, AAI was planning to commence only international services from the new terminal from December 12. However, it is learnt that a decision has been taken to operate the domestic services of National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL - Air India) from there. ‘’But a decision on operating the domestic services of other airlines is yet to be taken,’’ sources at the Airport said.
Meanwhile, sources at the airport said that any decision to shift the domestic services of Air India alone to the new terminal would invite widespread protest from the other private domestic carriers.
It is also learnt that uncertainty still looms over the chances of commissioning the new terminal by December 12 as the State Government is adamant on its stand that the new terminal should be commissioned only after a formal inauguration.
