Mumbai: Acting on specific information that some drugs and costly watches were being smuggled into the country, directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) officials carried out a search in an Air India airbus and seized drugs and watches worth around Rs80 lakh in the Indian market.
The Air India flight from Abu Dhabi reached the international terminal of the city airport on Monday night.
The drugs seized are suspected to be anti-cancer treatment drugs that have levels of fludrocortisone. The drugs are used during carboplatin chemotherapy and are very expensive in the Indian market.
It is also suspected that the drug could be steroids. The entire stock has been sent for chemical analysis.
Other than the drugs, there were 26 premium watches of Frank Muller. Out of the 26 watches, 16 are studded with diamonds and a few of them have gold plating.
The watches are valued at almost Rs10 lakh.
