Shimla District Consumer forum fines Paramount

Shimla: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has penalized Paramount Airways, Chennai as well as Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), for deficiency in service and unfair trade practice and directed the parties to pay Rs. 10,000/- as compensation to a complainant, Sushil Justa of Shimla.
The forum headed by RL Azad also imposed Rs. 1500/- as cost on the respondents for causing mental harassment and agony to petitioner. According to the complainant, he had booked a ticket with the airlines for travel on 10th October, 2009. However on October 9 he was informed that the flight had been cancelled due to technical reasons.
Complainant’s request to make some alternative arrangement for him failed to elicit response. The complainant further alleged that in order to know about the cancellation of the flight he checked the website of the airlines on 09.10.2009, which showed availability on the same flight available for Rs.7373/-.
Furthermore to compound petitioner’s harassment he was informed that refund will be made through the travel agent only.
DGCA the regulatory body, due to non-appearance has also been proceeded against in the case.
