Air India Ltd’s passenger revenue for the nine months ended December increased 21% to Rs.7,941 crore, the airline said on Friday.
The state-run carrier posted a cash profit of Rs.49.48 crore in December, the second consecutive month that it has had an operating surplus after nearly four years of losses. In November, it had a cash profit of Rs.21.66 crore. Mint reported on Friday a doubling in Air India’s cash profit in December.
“International and domestic yields improved by 7% and 5% in December 2010, respectively, as compared to the previous year,” the airline said in a statement. It added that 106 out of its 179 flights made cash profits during the month.
Mint had reported in October that Air India could turn the corner in the year to March by posting an operating profit.
The airline, which made a net loss of Rs.12,740 crore in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 fiscal years, is in the process of finalising a turnaround plan.
