Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Friday disposed of a PIL seeking directives for easing air traffic congestion. A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice S J Vajifdar took on record affidavits filed by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Both had told HC that steps have been taken to decongest air traffic at the city's international airport.
A PIL filed by M/s Resources of Aviation Redressal and seven others in 2009 had claimed that congestion at the airport was alarming and endangering passengers' lives. V Balasubramaniam, deputy GM, AAI, had told the court then that not all flights at the international airport were delayed. "There may be occasional congestion due to various factors like adverse weather, bunching of flights, closure of taxiways or runways," his affidavit stated.
Parth Sarathi Ganguly, the GM of DGCA, in March 2010 said that they have undertaken steps to ease congestion. It was also stated that a parallel taxiway to Runway 14.
