Karna eyeing at Rs 10,000 cr investment in aerospace

Bangalore: With Bangalore emerging as an aerospace hub, the Karnataka government is looking at Rs 10,000 crore investments in the aerospace sector by the end of next year, a top official said.
"From the present Rs 5,000 crore in aerospace sector, we are looking at Rs 10,000 crore investment in the aerospace sector by the end of next year," V P Baligar, Principal Secretary to Commerce & Industries Department told reporters here, two days ahead of the mega Aero India show here.
To give further impetus to aerospace sector, the state government is setting up Bangalore Aerospace Park (BAP) in 985 acres, adjacent to Bangalore International Airport (BIA) which would comprise of 252 acres SEZ, an initiative of joint task force on Aerospace with CII Karnataka, he said.
A technology innovation centre and also country specific aerospace clusters were proposed in this facility. An in-principle approval for a direct connection between BIAL and BAP has been announced with 60 acres allotted to BIAL for cargo handling for aerospace, Baligar said.
A total of 28 aerospace companies including HAL, Dynamic Aerospace Company , BEML and aerospace division of Wipro have already been allotted land in the BAP, he added.
"BAP will become will become fully operational in the next two to three years time", he said.
To ensure availability of trained manpower and higher research capabilities in the aerospace field, Karnataka government is also looking at setting up an Aerospace University and was already in talks with foreign universities, Raj Kumar Khatri, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director of Industries and Commerce said.
Discussions with other aerospace educational institutions in Canada, the US and Australia are planned during the Aero India show, he said.
