Mumbai: Members of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), have threatened a strike on February 10 over deferment of salary. ICPA pilots operate most IC-coded and some AI-coded flights.
If the pilots strike work, Air India flights on domestic routes and those to international destinations like Kuwait, Muscat, Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur could be affected.
The union represents 600-650 of the 850 pilots of the erstwhile Indian Airlines. The others are management pilots. Sources said they too would join the stir. The Air India spokesperson was not available for comment.
Passengers who have early morning or afternoon flights on Thursday do not have much to worry. "The decision on a strike will be taken between 5 pm and midnight on Thursday," said Capt Kapur, reasoning that since banks close by 5 pm the pilots will know the status of their salary by then.
On Monday, the ICPA wrote to the civil aviation minister and Air India chairman conveying its decision to strike as salaries had been deferred for the third time in a row.
