Pilots call off stir as AI promises to pay salaries

Mumbai: The salary deferment issue, which had the Air India pilots issue a threat to strike work, has been resolved for now. If you are scheduled to fly Air India on Thursday, you can be sure that the pilot will turn up to operate the flight.
Early this week, Air India had informed its pilots that their salaries for the month of January would be paid on February 14. Since this was the third deferment for salary payment-the earlier ones being February 7 and 10-a section of the pilots threatened to go on a flash strike if their salaries did not come by Thursday. The issue was resolved on Wednesday with Air India announcing that the salaries would be paid on Friday.
"The airline procured a loan and needs one more day to transfer the money to the employees' account," said Capt Rishabh Kapur, general secretary, Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA). "We have agreed to not go on strike though the salaries will not be paid on Thursday. In return, we have asked for a meeting with the airline chairman," he said.
