AI crash victim's job hunt continues

Mangalore: Joel Pratap D'Souza of Vamanjoor, one of the eight survivors of the IX-812 air crash of May 22, 2010, is still waiting for the job promised by the Air India management.
He attended an interview five months back and has not heard from AI till date. Joel was returning from Dubai to change his visit visa to job visa, after he got a job as a machinist in a cable company. "The job was worth dirham 1,500 (roughly Rs 18,000), with free food, accommodation and travel allowance," said Joel.
Joel had suffered a compression fracture of the vertebra and a ligament injury to his right knee. The injury to his vertebra (spinal cord) necessitated Joel to wear a brace, and his knee injury has forced him to walk with the help of crutches. Now he's almost normal and off medication, but cannot do stressful work which will put pressure on spine.
He has received compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh, which includes both AI and central government assistance. His medical bill have been paid by the AI management.

AI sources said as no direct recruiting was taking place, all job placements were being handled by Air India Sats (Singapore Airport Terminal Services).
Another survivor Abdul Ismail from Puttur got his old job back at Dubai as a sports shop manager.
