Aiport line check-in, not yet

New Delhi: Checking in baggage at any of the Metro stations on the IGI Airport Metro line is not going to be possible for at least another three months. Sources said that it could even take as long as six months.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation (BCAS) security has formed a committee to take stock of security conditions on the airport line and only once it has sorted out security and legal issues will baggage check-in at the New Delhi and Shivaji stations be permitted.

According to sources, the committee will convene in another fortnight and will consist of BCAS officials and one commandant from the CISF Metro security unit. "The proposal to set up the BCAS committee was floated before the line started. A high-level committee that also included the secretary of civil aviation went on an inspection of the line and identified some security concerns. The BCAS team will have to tour the entire line to see if there are any loopholes in the existing system that might pose a threat to the check-in process and identify measures to address those. This itself will take some time," said an official.

The check-in process will also have to deal with several legal matters before it can be formalized. Officials said that a check-in system was already in place at airport with several well-laid out rules and regulations and the Metro security would have to strictly follow those.
