Pune may get direct flights to Singapore this summer

This summer Puneites may be able to fly directly to Singapore which is quite a popular tourist destination here. Silkair, a Singapore based airline, has showed interest in starting a direct flight between Pune and Singapore if the Airport Authority of India (AAI) gives them the go-ahead.

If approved, this will be Pune’s third international flight this summer. At present, Pune has two international flights — an Air India flight to Dubai and a Lufthansa Airlines to Frankfurt. Now, Silkair has approached the AAI for a direct flight to Singapore.

Deputy General Manager (Operations), Pune Airport, Captain D Prasad, told Mirror, “There is a proposal from Silkair for a direct flight from Pune to Singapore. We forwarded this proposal to our headquarters in Delhi. If approved, Pune will have one more international flight.”

Pune Airport got international status on December 12, 2005, when Air India started a flight from Pune to Dubai. At the time, Air India also started a Pune-Singapore flight, however, flights were stopped soon after. In February 2008, Lufthansa started a flight from Pune to Frankfurt.
