Flyer from Delhi intercepted with Rs 13L

Patna: Income tax sleuths on Thursday detained a Delhi-based businessman, Ashutosh Viz, at Patna's Jaya Prakash Narayan International airport with Rs 13 lakh and a laptop.
Acting on a tip-off from their counterparts in Delhi, I-T sleuths were waiting in ambush for the GoAir's Delhi-Patna (G8-341) flight which arrived here at 9 am. The trader, in his late 40s, was quizzed for five hours.
Though I-T sources appeared to suspect that the unaccounted cash was meant for use in poll-bound West Bengal, the interrogators could not get any clue to the trader's political affiliation. "We are, however, not satisfied with the trader's explanation about the money," an I-T official said and added the money has been seized and the trader let off with a directive to produce documents to prove that the money is not unaccounted.
I-T department has decided to depute a vigilance team at the Patna airport to check the flow of unaccounted money during elections in five states, specially neighbouring West Bengal in April. The department's investigation wing has sent a proposal to the Central Board of Direct Taxes for setting up a permanent Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the Patna airport.
