55 compensated in Mangalore Air crash case

Mangalore: Less than a year after the crash of Air India Express IX 812 in which 158 passengers lost their lives in Kenjar near Mangalore Airport, Air India-appointed solicitor Hoshang D Nanavati of Mulla and Mulla Associates facilitated release of compensation in 55 cases.
Mumbai-based advocate HD Nanavati, who settled some cases during his recent three-day sitting with family members of the victims in Mangalore, asserted that they are doing their level best to settle all cases.
"Each case has been examined separately on proof of loss basis, irrespective of the compensation, according to Montreal convention of 100,000 SDRs (Standard Drawing Rate)," he said.
"Many have received more than Rs 75 lakh (equal to the quantum of 100,000 SDRs) based on proof of loss basis, calculated on the basis of an exercise essential to place the family members in the same financial position as they would have been if the victim had not died," he said.
Over the delay in distribution of compensation, Nanavati said some were awaiting the verdict in a case filed in Kerala High Court.
