Mumbai: Private carriers have raised fares on metro routes as Air India stopped bookings till May 3, creating a supply shortfall amid peak summer travel demand. Travel industry says the fares have gone up by about 10-20% on metro routes, including Delhi-Mumbai.
"When the airline that has about 15% of market share sucks it out, that will definitely have an impact on fares," said Keyur Joshi, co-founder of travel and ticketing portal MakeMytrip.com .
Low-cost carriers such as GoAir and IndiGo are selling tickets on the Delhi-Mumbai route for as high as 6,558 (morning flight) and 5,429 (night flight), respectively, for bookings two days ahead of travel date. These prices are 1,000 higher than the average prices charged on this sector.
