Moodbidri goes ahead with its own memorial for Air India Express crash victims

Mangalore: Air India (AI) might have no ideas about building a memorial for the passengers who died in the Air India Express IX-812 crash last year, but Moodbidri has decided to build a memorial for a passenger who died in the crash.
The JayaprakashDevadiga Memorial — an open-air pavilion — will be inaugurated at Padumurnadu village school ground on May 22, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the crash.
Padumurnadu is a sleepy village 5 km away from Moodbidri’s Soans farms. Friends of Jayaprakash Devadiga, a local lad who died in the IX-812 crash, have decided to take up the project.
Jayaprakash, or JP as he was fondly known, was a student-turned-philanthropist. Although he died at the age of 26, his good deeds are remembered inPadumurnadu.
Village panchayat member Sarojini remembers JP as a “boy with extraordinary concern for the society”. He helped anybody who approached him and he had the villagers’ interests in mind.
Ramesh Shetty said JP was a bundle of energy and a great organiser too. He would take the lead in organising any function in the village or in Moodbidri town.
