Pune airport advisory panel meet on hold

Pune: Officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) here do not know when to call the meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) because of the man who heads the panel, Member of Parliament from Pune Suresh Kalmadi, cannot be present.
Kalmadi is in judicial custody following his arrest in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010 scam.
The AAC, a multi-member statutory body set up by the ministry of civil aviation at each airport in the country to deliberate and address issues relating to development and progress of the concerned airport, has not met for almost 18 months.
The panel is expected to meet at least twice a year to take stock of issues and collect feedback from stakeholders. It last met on January 8, 2010 after three-and-a-half years.
"We will have to consult the senior officials in New Delhi for options on holding the AAC meeting," AAI, Pune director P S R K Sudhakar told TOI recently. "The AAI head office will take a call soon," he added.
In Pune, the AAC comprises 32 members with Kalmadi as its head and Wadgaon Sheri MLA Bapu Pathare as the vice chairman.
