1.6L stolen from luggage at airport, claims Cong leader

Kolkata: More than Rs 1.5 lakh in cash was reportedly stolen from the registered baggage of Congress councilor Santosh Pathak at Kolkata airport on Wednesday. Pathak, a Congress leader of Burrabazar, is considered one of the richest councillors of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Pathak had gone to Jaipur with three of his friends. On Wednesday, they boarded a SpiceJet flight from Jaipur, which took off at 11.20 am. After landing in Kolkata around 2 pm, he realized that the security tags on his suitcase had been tampered with. A suspicious Pathak opened the luggage in front of his friends at the airport itself. "I found nearly Rs 1.6 lakh missing from the bag," said Pathak.
Incidentally, carrying valuables in one's registered baggage is prohibited. Pathak, however, did not elaborate why he violated the rule and why he did not carry the cash in his hand baggage. "I had some cash payments to make," claimed the councillor from KMC's ward 45.
Soon after discovering the theft, Pathak landed at NSCBI police station and lodged a complaint.
