Mumbai: A South African national was arrested at the city airport on Friday on suspicion of carrying papers in the shape of currency notes and a chemical. The accused could convert the papers into dollars by just adding the chemical to it, the police said.
The accused, Ncube Emmanuel (38), was travelling from Mumbai to Kolkata. During a security check at the airport, an employee noticed a bunch of papers and a chemical in his bag. He immediately informed the police about it. The cops arrested Emmanuel under 41-D of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The police went through Emmanuel's past records to see if he had any criminal background. But there was no complaint registered against him at any police stations in the city. ACP (airport division) Sanjay Jambhulkar said, ''We did not find any complaints against him in the past. We had arrested him to enquire as to what he was planning to do with the blank papers. He could convert these papers into fake currency notes and use them to cheat people''
