JK Govt pitches for night landing at Srinagar Airport

Srinagar: Faced with severe criticism over its failure to address the issues facing the Srinagar ‘International’ Airport, the Jammu and Kashmir Government finally seems to have woken up from slumber to tackle the crucial matters concerning the flyers’ convenience and inflow of more flights to the Valley.
The Government, in a significant development, has raised the issue of night landing facility at the Srinagar Airport with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. This is besides pitching for restoring direct Hajj flights from Srinagar and also the revival of the Srinagar-Dubai flight.
The Commissioner, Civil Aviation Department in JK Government, Capt S Katoch raised the demands at a high-level meeting chaired by the Secretary, Civil Aviation, Government of India, at New Delhi on June 1. “We did raise the issue of night operation of flights from the Srinagar Airport,” Capt Katoch, who attended the meeting on behalf of the state government, told Greater Kashmir. “We asked why the night operations cannot take place from the airport and also pitched for direct Hajj flights from Srinagar, as has been the case in the past.”
Capt Katoch said “the Civil Aviation Ministry has assured they will shortly get back to Jammu and Kashmir government on the issues.”
Pertinently, Greater Kashmir has been constantly reporting about these demands put forth by the stakeholders from time to time.
