Ludhiana: One of the major hurdles coming in the way of smooth landing of flights at Sahnewal airport is all set to go. High-tension wires will be shifted underground, with funds being deposited with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
TOI had been highlighting the problems being faced by passengers because of frequent cancellation of flights due to poor visibility. The past eight days too saw all flights, except one, being cancelled. For long, there was a tussle between airport authorities and Punjab government over the shifting of wires which were also coming in the way of installation of a navigational aid, D-VOR (Doppler VHF omnidirectional radio range).
Payment of Rs 1 crore has been made to PSPCL and procedure of allotting tenders for shifting of the wires will be started soon.
