Gold chains seized at airport

Gold chains totally valued at about Rs 20 lakh were seized from five passengers by the personnel of the Customs Department at the airport here on Tuesday. According to a release from Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Commissioner of Customs, Chennai Airport, on the basis of specific intelligence that gold chains are being smuggled into India from Singapore, airport officers kept vigil on the passengers from Singapore on October 11.
They intercepted five passengers, all holding Indian passports, when they were passing through the ‘green channel' of the arrival hall on suspicion that they might be carrying gold with them.
