District admin to identify new sites for Pune international airport

Pune: The Pune district administration will soon identify three to four different sites for the proposed Pune international airport and will submit a proposal to the state for finalising one of them, said divisional commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh while addressing a news conference here on Wednesday.
A few weeks ago, the state government proposed a shift in the location of the airport from Chakan, though it was about to finalise the location for construction. The price for land acquisition had almost been finalised. The search for a new location was initiated following a meeting with the chief minister and deputy chief minister recently, Deshmukh said.
He said, "It is a time-consuming exercise to send a proposal of one site and wait for it to become final. We have decided to gather information on three to four sites which could be suitable for a new airport with high capacity cargo and passenger movement. The process has been initiated and the information will be shared with the authorities concerned, like the Airport Authority of India."
