Ahmedabad: In what may be one of the biggest cases of illegal drugs being smuggled to foreign shores, mainly the UK and the US, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ahmedabad, has busted a nation-wide racket involving a city-based courier company. The agency's officials caught a consignment of contraband estimated to be worth over Rs4 crore.
On Saturday night DRI officials, based on a tip-off, detained 43kg of white powder suspected to be Ketamine from the cargo holding of the city's airport. The officials have sent samples of the powder to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar to confirm their suspicions. Ketamine is a government-controlled drug falling under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During investigation, it was revealed that a city-based courier company is involved in the racket which has roots in New Delhi, Pune, Mumbai and other major cities of the country. Sources said that the courier company had been collecting the drugs from all these cities and exporting them to countries including the US and the UK.
