‘HAL quality control will come under scanner’

Pune: The quality control (QC) department of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will come under the scanner following Tuesday’s crash of the Sukhoi-30 MkI fighter jet near Pune. This was disclosed by Air Chief Marshal (retd) Pradeep Naik, the recently retired chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), in an interaction with the media at a function held to felicitate successful, armed forces candidates at the city-based Apex Careers.
Reacting to the recent air crash, Naik said that the QC department of HAL had always been under the scanner and would come under the scanner once again.
“The HAL QC department is improving but there is still work to be done,” Naik said. The former air chief, however, hastened to add that HAL alone could not be targeted as the sole reason for the crash.
Commenting on the crash, Naik said, “Prima facie, the reason for the crash points to a technical snag and not pilot error. Anything from the control systems to the engine could have gone wrong. Only a detailed enquiry will establish this.”
